Maggie Doran - Principal
Dr. Darnisha Rigsby - Assistant Principal
Dr. Darnisha Rigsby earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Sam Houston State University in 2004 and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University in 2009. She continued at Lamar University where she earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in 2014.
Dr. Rigsby is in her tenth year in education. She’s taught 5th and 6th grade Language Arts including ESL at Eckert Intermediate. While there, she received Campus Teacher of the Year in 2010 and 5th Grade Teacher of the Year in 2012. Dr. Rigsby also served as an Elementary Skills Specialist at Ermel Elementary. She also worked as an ELA curriculum writer and district presenter prior to her appointment as Assistant Principal at Stephens Elementary.
Dr. Rigsby’s hobbies include shopping, watching movies, trying new restaurants, and reading books. Some of her favorite books are Smile by Raina Telgemeier, The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson, and The Best School Year Ever by Barbara Robinson.Dr. Rigsby is curious as to how districts can make the best use of teacher evaluation and prefessional development to ensure that all students have opportunities for success.
Jesus Altamirano - Assistant Principal
Mr. Jesus Altamirano is entering his twelfth year in education and his third year as assistant principal at Stephens Elementary. Mr. Altamirano has served as a teacher in grades second through eighth and as a committee member for the STAAR Question Review Committee prior to his appointment as assistant principal.
Mr. Altamirano received his Bachelor in Science degree in Secondary Education from Idaho State University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and his Principal Certification from Lamar University.
Mr. Altamirano’s hobbies include fishing, hunting, camping, and riding horses. His favorite books include the Louis L'amour Series, White Fang by Jack London, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Lord of the Flies by William Golding. His interests include politics, current events, nature, business, and technology.
Shanterakia Thomas-Johnson - Assistant Principal
Mrs. Shanterakia Thomas-Johnson is beginning her first year at Stephens Elementary School. She grew up in the Aldine community and attended various schools. Mrs. Johnson is a proud graduate of Nimitz High School.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Prairie View A&M University, Mrs. Johnson began her teaching career at Stovall Middle School in 2006. She continued at Prairie View A&M University where she earned her Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration.
Mrs. Johnson is entering her tenth year in education. Throughout her educational career, Ms. Johnson has served as a teacher, math department chair, math skills specialist, district curriculum writer and presenter before being appointed as Assistant Principal at Stephens Elementary.
Mrs. Johnson is interested in math, reading, sports, traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She is also curious about current teaching trends and technology. Some of her favorite books include To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss, and Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.
Ms. Karen Cole earned her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Lamar University, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration, and a Master’s in Counseling both from Prairie View A&M University.
Ms. Cole began her career in education in 1996 during which she has taught High School and College courses. She joined Stephens Elementary in 2010 where she is currently the counselor.
